A different kind of Counsel
“To understand many things you must reach out of your own condition.“
~ Mary Oliver
I provide a different perspective from a traditional psychotherapeutic process. Psychotherapy is a treatment by an expert for a person with a diagnosis or pathology. I do not regard the work I provide as a treatment, for the simple reason that life’s challenges and our childhood responses to trauma and neglect are not pathologies but coping strategies. A different quality of listening can reveal how to become increasingly aware of and step out of those patterns and into life choices, which are more attuned to who you are.
The goal of discovering one’s essential nature is common to both psychological and spiritual literature. It is, I believe, the central theme and aim of both disciplines.
The different kind of counsel I offer draws upon and integrates both.
“I have known Dr. Randall Alifano for over 25 years. Would I trust this man with my life? I did. He literally saved my life while processing memories from a horrifically abusive childhood. To say that I would not be here now if it wasn’t for Randall is not an exaggeration. If you’re looking for someone who will agree with your opinions when you’re wrong, this is probably not who you’re looking for. If you are looking for someone who will gently guide you through your feelings and help you achieve your greatest potential, then he is who you want. This is a man that is as compassionate as any human being you will ever meet. He will be there for you when you need him, even during times when you push him away. Randall knows when to back off but he doesn’t let go. He knows when to push but he never shoves. This is a man that has been there for me when it was not convenient, but he was there. This man has a heart that is so genuine, it’s sometimes hard to believe that there are still people like that in this world – but there are. He provides spiritual guidance, therapy, unconditional acceptance, a safe environment and on top of all of that, he is a man with a sense of humor. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any kind of counseling or guidance that you are looking for.”
